- Ladies That Lunge Gym Group | Abbey Park Nottm
Ladies that Lunge Finding Inspiration in Each Other As a committee, we are an eclectic bunch with interests and experience in many areas. Catherine Bailey, one of our members voiced she would like to see an adult gym on Abbey Park a few years ago and for a long time the idea sat on the back burner, non of us really knowing how to go about it. When the old Abbey Depot was knocked down we were made aware of funding that could be used to facilitate our plan and we worked with Rushcliffe Borough Council on the design and plans. Below you can see some of the photos of the Gym installation which happened in Summer of 2025. See the transformation Our Story From the day the Gym was installed some of us were itching to get started but we couldn't help feeling slightly intimidated and silly using the equipment on out own, so we decided to pop a post on Abbey Park Local to see if any other women wanted to join us and so our group was formed. As we all lead busy lives the meetings are open to anyone that can make them. They don't have to come regularly (but it helps them if they do). We meet every Tuesday & Saturday from 11am til midday. If you would like to join us, please do get in touch by emailing abbeypark.ng@gmail.com best of all, its FUN & FREE!

- Abbey Park Play & Exercise Area | Abbey Park Nottm
Our new play area comprises of several peices of equipment that are accessible to all. More are planned for the future. Play Park Improvements 2021-2025 The plan The reality Abbey Park Community Association (APCA) are pleased with the improvements the playground on Abbey Park and we hope you are too. Two benches were installed on the park during 2024 and are enjoyed by many people. They really have been a fabulous addition. See stock photo below. Subject to funding there is potential in Phase 2 to include a MUGA (Multi Use Games Area) with low level football goals on the flat area between the trees/bank and the rear of the houses on Waltham Close - see drawing below. This eventually incorporate landscape planting so the views from the nearby houses remain green and pleasant. At the beginning of March 2025 APCA volunteers installed a Willow Weave Tunnel (See photographs below) similar to the one in West Bridgford Park. Positioned between the play park and the nature trail, it provides a natural link between the two area. Obviously, it will need to establish itself, so we ask that you and your children respect this while the cordon is in place. Outline of Willow placement Cut out Complete with bark chipping Outline of Willow placement 1/11 Outdoor Gym - Calisthenic APCA have worked long and hard with Rushcliffe Borough Council to gain adult outdoor gym equipment to be included on the park. - Abbey Circus Air Raid Shelter | Abbey Park Nottm
Abbey Circus Air Raid Shelter Walk to Abbey Circus to view the triangle of land which was left to the local residents to enjoy and you will find more than just a grass. For many years the patch of land was off limits until local residents fought for it to be reopened. Today there are access gates, new fencing, planters and, importantly, you will find its WW2 air raid shelter, which is still in existence today. It was earmarked for demolition in 1979, the Cold War drew to a close and the 67 ft shelter (B34TYB) was mothballed but recently has been protected and is now considered to be a site of Special Scientific Interest. A couple of years ago, Chris Reynolds, Professor of Contemporary European History and Memory Studies at Nottingham Trent University took on the project to restore and reopen the shelter. Thanks to him school children now visit to learn about the war effort and the fascinating local history. The general public are also able to visit. Please go to https://ng2shelter.com/about/ to find out more. For more information or to book: Email: information@ng2shelter.com Below you can see a selection of artefacts from inside the shelter. - Tree Planting for Future Generations | Abbey Park Nottm
We want our field to grow and become an even more beautiful place to be. Tree Planting Streetwise have now started planting to replace the beautiful Ash Trees that were damaged by dieback. New Acers, Cherries and Red Oak are being planted and will be hopefully gracing our park in years to come. Thankfully, Streetwise has a contractor to water them every 3 weeks from March. However it should ideally be once a week. If you can help in any way to ensure they settle in and become well established, please email us at abbeypark.ng@gmail.com More discussions are underway with a view to planting a possible orchard and even a mini forest so watch this space!
