  • Original House Plans | Abbey Park Nottm

We've been fortunate in obtaining originaal plans for the properties around Abbey Park. Abbey Park Housing Development Abbey Park was built by Costain Homes on land that was, until then, fields and allotments (see side by side maps below). The Willow Tree pub was constructed at the same time and remains an integral part of the community. The estate is arranged in a series of cul-de-sacs with two through-roads, Rufford Way and Buckfast Way. The latter was only possible ofter No's 101 & 103 Abbey Road were demolished. The housing estate consists of townhouse, semi-detached, link detached, and detached houses, with a small number of bungalows. Bisham Drive, Dale Close, Newstead Drive, Mountsorrel Drive, Fountains Close, Waltham Close, and Nearsby Drive, are all named after famous abbeys. Link to Side by Side Mapping Our thanks go to Amanda Dennis for sending the following PDF files of the original sales information leaflets.

  • Orchard & Tree Planting | Abbey Park Community Association | West Bridgford

Streetwise have enabled us to plant some of the orchard trees, but others we have done ourselves. Take a look at how things are progressing. Abbey Park Orchards It's been a long time coming with planning initially starting way back during lockdown, but our orchards are now coming to fruition with two areas being planted today (18th November 2020). All the committee have been a part of the planning, but Lesley Morris & Simon Middlecote have taken the lead with grant applications and layouts. There are two separate areas, the lower ground opposite the play park and on the edge of the allotments now have beautiful ornamental cherry trees of mixed varieties while the higher orchard contains a mixture of fruit trees including Bramley Apple, Flowering Crab Apple and Damson Trees. Local residents have adopted some of the trees and have agreed to help tend them until they are fully established. If you would like to adopt a tree, please contact us at abbeypark.ng@gmail.com So it begins... James from Streetwise planting one of the first ornamental cherry trees Checking the layout Lesley Morris double checks the layout with James and Mark from Streetwise Project Name Simon, Ruth & Lesley at the beginning of the work next to the Alllotments. The look of satisfaction Lesley & Simon posing at the Fruit Tree Orchard Site. Merryweather Damson Double staked, we hope these trees will thrive and be enjoyed by all who visit the park. John Downie - Flowering Crab Apple Already baring fruit, this tree is looking gorgeous and will certainly bring colour to the area. Newtons Apple Tree Planted on 23rd November this Newtons Apple Tree is sure to be a winner. Look, it's even planted an apple on top of someones head! Old Bess Apple Tree Planted at the same time and not as well know as Newtons Apple, Old Bess is a fine addition to our growing orchard. Horse Chestnut Tree Planting Many moons ago, one of our members children planted Horse Chestnut Tree. It has been potbound for some time and we felt it was only right to give this wonderful tree a special place all of its own. Planted on the top of the field, Catherine Bailey can now enjoy watching it grow and spread its branches. Of course, we did have to gain permission from RBC's Tom Pettit. To play, press and hold the enter key. To stop, release the enter key.

  • Abbey Park Play & Exercise Area | Abbey Park Nottm

Our new play area comprises of several peices of equipment that are accessible to all. More are planned for the future. Play Park Improvements 2021-2025 The plan The reality Abbey Park Community Association (APCA) are pleased with the improvements the playground on Abbey Park and we hope you are too. Two benches were installed on the park during 2024 and are enjoyed by many people. They really have been a fabulous addition. See stock photo below. Subject to funding there is potential in Phase 2 to include a MUGA (Multi Use Games Area) with low level football goals on the flat area between the trees/bank and the rear of the houses on Waltham Close - see drawing below. This eventually incorporate landscape planting so the views from the nearby houses remain green and pleasant. At the beginning of March 2025 APCA volunteers installed a Willow Weave Tunnel (See photographs below) similar to the one in West Bridgford Park. Positioned between the play park and the nature trail, it provides a natural link between the two area. Obviously, it will need to establish itself, so we ask that you and your children respect this while the cordon is in place. Outline of Willow placement Cut out Complete with bark chipping Outline of Willow placement 1/11 Outdoor Gym - Calisthenic APCA have worked long and hard with Rushcliffe Borough Council to gain adult outdoor gym equipment to be included on the park. As with most things, it took a long time in the planning, but continued to move forward and earlier this year an amazing Calisthenic Gym was fitted using Section 106 funding - More can be found out about this by following the link https://www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/planning-and-environment/general-planning/what-are-developer-contributions The gym has already proved extremely successful and we already have a regular ladies group that uses it. see photos below.
